Description Arenal Volcano National Park is home to about half of the birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians known to Costa Rica. The volcano was thought to be dormant since the 1500s, until an eruption in 1968 spewed lava and ash from the volcano. The volcano retained its perfect cone shape and spews lava and smoke almost daily and so has become known as the picture perfect image of a typical volcano.
Description Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge is a Wildlife refuge, part of the Tortuguero Conservation Area, in Limón Province in the northeastern part of Costa Rica. It is the second largest rain forest preserve in the country and protects areas that contain hot humid forests, mangroves, canals and marine areas, bounded in part by the San Juan and Colorado rivers, and to the south the Tortuguero National Park.
Description Braulio Carrillo National Park lies in one of the most rugged regions in the country. Almost the entire terrain is a jumble of towering volcanic mountains. The vegetation in the park consist of a very thick evergreen forest with a highly complex structure. The composition of the forest changes depending on environmental conditions, such as terrain, drainage, temperature, cloud cover and rainfall. Most of the park is covered with primary forest, trees ferns, heliconias and a large number of palm trees. There is a wealth of wildlife, especially birds. Some of the resident mammals are howler, spider and white-faced monkeys, tapir, jaguar, puma, paca, white-tailed deer, porcupine and sloths.
Description Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is a wetlands site that is home to many migratory waterfowl during part of the year, centered on Lake Caño Negro which is fed by the Frio River during the rainy season. There are no public facilities at the refuge, and the area can be explored only by boat.
Description San José is the international hub and the capital of Costa Rica. The majority of restaurants, stores, businesses and places to stay are in San Jose. The city was founded in 1737, but not much is left from the colonial era. The most appealing aspect of the city is the friendliness of the Costa Ricans compared to other capital cities around the world.
Description Chirripó National Park, which boasts the highest peak in Costa Rica at 3.820 meters above sea level, is located near the town of San Isidro de General about 60 miles southeast of San Jose. The main route into the park is located northeast of the town of San Gerardo de Rivas.
Description Cocos Island (Spanish: Isla del Coco) is an island located off the shore of Costa Rica. It is part of the Province of Puntarenas. It is one of the National Parks of Costa Rica.Surrounded by deep waters with counter-currents, it is admired by scuba divers for its populations of Hammerhead sharks, rays and dolphins.

Description Central Mountain ChainIrazú Volcano is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. The last eruption was March 19, 1963, the same day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy arrived to Costa Rica for a state visit. Irazú Volcano National Park is located to the east of San José.
Description Jacó is a coastal town in Costa Rica's Puntarenas province, located on the Pacific Ocean. Jacó is popular for its surfing and considered to be a party town.

Description Manuel Antonio National Park, in Spanish the Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio, is a small National Park in the Central Pacific Conservation Area located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, just south of the city of Quepos, Puntarenas, and 132 km from the national capital of San José. Established in 1972 with an area enumerating 4,014 acres (16.24 km) (the smallest of any Costa Rican national park), it is the destination of as many as 150,000 visitors annually and well-known for its beautiful beaches and hiking trails. It is famous as well for being a very gay friendly and oriented area as well.
Description Due to the acclaimed rain forests and cloud forests in the greater Monteverde area, Monteverde has become a major part of the Costa Rican tourist trail - despite difficult access. It was recently voted one of the "7 Wonders of Costa Rica" by the Costa Rican newspaper La Nación [2]. Over 60,000 tourists visit the Reserva Biológica Bosque Nuboso Monteverde of Monteverde's total 200,000 annual tourists. Monteverde's acclaim comes largely from its highly biodiverse ecosystem, boasting 130 species of mammals, 500 species of birds, 120 species of amphibians and reptiles as well as 3,000 species of plants. Many of these species are endemic.
Description Poás Volcano National Park, located to the northwest of San José, is has volcanic crater that is bubbling and steaming with activity. The last minor eruption occurred in 1995.
Description Tamarindo has all the amenities of a Costa Rican beach town: surf, sand and sun, sun, sun.
